A well-put-together roadmap is an ever-living document that serves as a navigation tool for product companies during product development: it reflects the vision, breaks down the strategy into practical steps, tracks the market, provides ammunition for sales, and builds trust with customers regarding future developments.
A good roadmap often finds its place in the company’s communication toolkit. We can use it as a compass to track the status of the product, in internal and customer communication, but it can also come to the fore when looking for investors.
At the same time, creating a good roadmap is not an easy task: clear strategy, focus, appropriate format, well-circled tasks and of course consensus within the company are required. And what is at least as difficult is not to deviate from everything we have planned on the roadmap during our daily work.
From Balázs Kereskényi’s (the MVP company, IBM Budapest Labs, Ustream) presentation, you can learn:
Founder & CEO, the MVP company
I have been working in software development for 15 years, 10 of which as a product manager and leader. I have seen start-ups and large companies from the inside, been part of huge successes and embarrassing failures. In 2016, my product manager team led Ustream through the IBM acquisition, after which I made a small detour into corporate politics and led the company’s 200-strong cloud and SaaS development center as IBM Budapest Lab site leader for 3 years. I boldly state that there has not been a single day in my professional life over the past 15 years from which I could not have learned something. And now, myself and a few similarly experienced colleagues would like to pass on this knowledge through our product management-focused consulting company, the MVP company, to anyone who wants to do product development better.
